Stages of the SEN code of practice
The Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice has been in the process of changing. Five Stages have become Three Stages. The move from five to three stages is simply a clearer and more user-friendly way of recording the level of provision that pupils with SEN need to help them make progress.
Any concerns regarding your child’s difficulties should be initially directed to your child's class teacher and then to the school SENCO. The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) for Kirkistown Primary School is Mrs Scott. The role of SENCO will soon be known as the Learning Support Co-ordinator (LSC).
We set aside an hour each week for each class teacher to work with children in their class on the Special Educational Needs register. This hour allows the teacher to work 1:1 or in an appropriate small group setting, focusing on the specific needs of learners identified through their Individual Education Plans (IEPs/PLP's). In addition, we provide differentiated learning to ensure all learners are challenged at an appropriate level and in an appropriate way.

What the three stages look like?
The new three stages focus on levels of provision for pupils who have SEN:
Pupils who are recorded as Stage One will be receiving school delivered special educational provision.
