activity based learning

2021-2022

sensory play

Children from Primary 4 & 5 have been trying out a range of sensory play items with funding provided by the Education Authority. Children discussed which items made them feel the calmest and would help them to focus and feel ready to learn.

Viking Longships at the beach

Primary 4 and 5 pupils visited Cloughey Beach to try out the Viking longships they had made. It was cold but rather good fun.

Vikings: painting our brooches and shields

Primary 4 and 5 pupils have spent this afternoon painting their Viking brooches and shields.

vikings: making sails for our boats

Children have been busy making sails for their Viking longships.

VIKINGS: CLAY BROOCHES AND SHIELDS

Primary 4 and 5 pupils have designed their own Viking brooches and shields on paper before making them from clay. Children have learned about the many skills the Viking people possessed- as well as being fine craftsmen and women, they were great blacksmiths and made their own weapons. Children have created their designs inspired by a range of examples they viewed.

P4 & P5: Vikings
REPRESENTING THE VIKING GODS USING RHYTHM

P4 and P5 pupils have been getting creative this week. Using a collection of percussion instruments, children worked in pairs to create sounds that represented a range of Viking gods and goddesses. Each group undertook a small presentation and performance before the children came together to sing an old Viking song.

vikings: lego houses

Primary 4 pupils have been using lego to create models of Viking homes. Children researched and discussed the features of the homes before building them. What a fun way to learn!

vikings: p4 and p5

P4 and P5 pupils have started planning, designing and making their own Viking Longboat replicas. Children are using carboard and a rage of simple tools to help them create the hull of the boat.

Vikings: P4

Primary 4 pupils have been making Viking faces from Play doh using their Literacy work on adjectives when creating a cinquain poem to help them. Children shaped and scultped the faces using their fingers and a range of small tools.

Earth & space: P4 and P5

As part of our 'Earth & Space' topic, children have been participating in Activity Based Learning this week. Children were able to choose been a small art based project, a lego based project, a STEM construction project or a design project (a space themed board game or t-shirt). Each activity involved a strong creative element and some problem solving along the way. The children did a fantastic job and really enjoyed their activities.
