platinum jubilee

our jubilee celebration

On 6th February this year, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events and initiatives took place place throughout the year, culminating in a four day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. The four days of celebrations included public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.

At Kirkistown Primary School, we celebrated Jubilee Day on Monday 06 June 2022. You can find out about our celebration via the photographs and sections below as well as looking at some of learning and artistic activities that children engaged in, in the build up to our special day.

our platinum jubilee parties!

Each class hosted their very own Jubilee Party where they toasted the Queen on reaching her fabulous Platinum Jubilee!

ice cream van visit

Who doesn't love a lovely ice cream on a gorgeous spring day?

bouncy castle fun

As part of our celebrations all classes had a designated time to access two bouncy castles all to themselves. Children had a fantastic time burning off lots of energy!

the build up to the big day

artwork galore!

Children in Primary 4, 5, 6 and 7 have been working on lots of collage pieces of artwork to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. Samples of their work are included below.

designing crowns for the queen

We used jewels and sequins to make our crowns that we had designed for the Queen to make them extra sparkly and special!

ict writing about the queen

Reception and Primary 1 have been learning lots of facts about Queen Elizabeth. Primary 1 children were all able to word process one sentence about what we had found out.

kings and queens for a day

Reception and Primary 1 pupils decided that they would like to be Kings and Queens for a day!

queen portraits

Do you like the wonderful portraits of the Queen that Reception and Primary 1 children painted? We looked very closely at pictures of her and tried very carefully to add all of the detail that was needed, such as her pearl earrings and necklace!
