Helping those less fortunate than ourselves
At Kirkistown Primary School, we want our children to know how fortunate they are. We talk a lot about being kind and helpful to people we meet and support a number of charities throughout the year. Find out more about how our school community have supported the following great causes, below.
comic relief 2022
Reception and Primary 1 had lots of fun on Comic Relief Day, wearing their red items! They even had ‘red nose and spoon’ races with their friends, Ollie was the winner. Thank you for all your support in helping us raise £76.00.
children in need 2021
Thank you to all our families for supporting our non-uniform day in support of Children in Need on Friday. As ever, we are very appreciative of your generosity. In total £90.94 was raised. Thank you for your continued support.
poppy appeal
We are currently collecting for the annual Poppy Appeal. Children can donate or purchase items from the Royal British Legion ahead of Remembrance Day. Items range between 50p and £1.50.

A huge thank you for the fantastic kindness and generosity of our school community by donating so many items of food to our local Food warehouse. Thank you so much!
Christmas jumper day 2020-
action mental health
A total of £66 has been raised through Christmas Jumper Day. This money will be forwarded on to Action Mental Health to help them continue their excellent work. We, as a school, have personally benefitted from their outreach work in recent months with staff and children from P5 - P7 have an engaging session with Leah Moore.

Thank you to all our families for supporting our non-uniform day in support of Children in Need on Friday. We raised £93 towards the national total. As ever, we are very appreciative of your generosity.
foodbank appeal- october 2020
Kirkistown Primary School have once again chosen to support our local Food Bank as part of our Charity collection and Harvest celebrations in School. Both ourselves and the local Food Bank Centre would really appreciate any non perishable food items that you could send in to support this very valuable and necessary service that the centre provides to those in need. All items can be sent into school any day up to Tuesday 13th October.

Air ambulance appeal
As we are unable to host our annual Macmillan Cancer Coffee Morning, we have instead opted to support a local charity- Air Ambulance NI.
The Air Ambulance NI have directly helped members of our school community in the recent past and we are very grateful for their excellent service. We would warmly welcome any donations to this wonderful cause in support of their continued work and as a thank you for all that they do. If you feel that this is something that you would like to do, please send your contribution into school with your child by Wednesday 30th September. Once again, we thank you for your support and kindness. Edit- A huge thank you to our school community for their support in raising money for Air Ambulance NI. Together, we raised an amazing £213. Thank you to everyone for their generosity. The donation will be made in memory of a former pupil and on behalf of our school community. |
autism ni superhero week
On the week commencing Monday 03 February 2020, we will participate in the AutismNI Superhero week. During the week, children will be encouraged to be as strong as Superman, be as smart as Ironman, be as kind as Wonder Woman be as generous as Black Panther and be as amazing as Spiderman. Children are being encouraged to be helpful around the home in return for a small sponsorship per family. On Friday, children are welcome to come to school in a superhero costume if they wish. Older children will be given the opportunity to make a small superhero mask during the week.

H2O Project (hope to others)
In April 2020, children will take part in the H2O (Hope to others) Project, helping to raise funds to provide clean drinking water for children and adults in parts of Africa. The project will be launched by a visit from Missionary, Gary Armstrong, alongside Reverend Neil Stewart at our assembly on Monday 02 March 2020.
On Wednesday 22 April 2020, the Kirkistown Primary School community will receive a very special visit from the Hope & Glory Choir from Eswatini (Swaziland). The visiting choir will perform a number of songs for our children before the Kirkistown Choir perform a number of songs of their own. On the evening of Wednesday 22 April 2020, the Kirkistown Primary School choir (alongside choirs from other local schools) will participate in a special fundraising concert alongside the Hope & Glory Choir at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Cloughey.
To kickstart the project, we were sent a lovely Christmas message from the Hope & Glory Choir.

simon community / cancer fund for children
We were recently visited by Amanda Scott (Simon Community) to talk about the great work her charity undertakes. Our children don't believe that anyone should be homeless in the 21st century. For the second year running we will support this great charity by having a collection at our two Christmas Carol Services and Nativity performances in December. Update- A fantastic £333.50 was raised. Thank you to the school community for your wonderful support for a great cause.
On our final day of term (Friday 20 December 2019), we will host a Christmas Jumper day. Children can wear their Christmas jumpers or decorate their own sweatshirt with tinsel, baubles, snowflakes and other appropriate materials. Children can donate £1 or more to 'Cancer Fund for Children' on this day. Update- £57.10 was raised for this great cause. Thank you to all those who donated.

Poppy appeal / children in need
In November, families supported both the Poppy Appeal and Children in Need. A total of £93.50 was raised through poppy sales in school while £190.51 was raised in support of Children in Need through a non uniform and 'crazy hair day' with our traditional teddy bear parade.
trussel trust Newtownards food bank
During the month of October, children brought in donations of food to support those experiencing hardship. At our harvest assembly, we gave thanks for the plentiful food in our homes and prayed that the food we had donated would help those in need. The food was donated to the Trussel Trust, Newtownards food bank.
macmillan cancer support
On Friday 27 September, the wider school community came together in Montgomery Hall to support the wonderful Macmillan Cancer Support through our MacMillan Coffee Morning. Thanks to the support of school families and staff, our local church and the wider community, an incredible total of £582.66 was raised.
