psni visit: Online and road safety

We were delighted to be visited by Chris from the PSNI Peninsula Neighbourhood Team on Thursday 7th April 2022. Our Road Safety Team wrote to the PSNI team before Christmas to arrange a visit and we are very grateful that Constable Brown was able to spend some time with the children.

A number of issues around Road Safety and Online Safety were discussed. Chris has asked if families can park their cars in the fantastic Cloughey Beach Car Park and make the short 2 minute walk to school- particularly during the warmer weather. Concerns have been highlighted regarding children entering and exiting vehicles against oncoming traffic on Main Road. School wishes to join the PSNI in appealing to families to use the fantastic parking facilities at Cloughey Beach to ensure safety and lines of sight for all road users and pedestrians.

Chris also spoke to children about some of the relevant dangers of making content available to other online users through social media and popular apps. We strongly encourage children and families to ensure they are checking privacy settings on relevant apps and considering carefully if particular apps are age appropriate for children. A number of excellent guides are available to parents through our website:

p7 leavers- tuesday 29 june 2021

We were grateful to be able to invite parents to our outdoor Primary 7 leavers event on Tuesday 29 June 2021 to mark the end of their child's journey in primary education. Children performed two songs alongside original poetry before presentations were made on behalf of school and the Board of Governors. It has been absolute delight to have worked with this fantastic group of children and we look forward to hearing of their continued success and happiness.
Primary 7 Memories

Primary 7 Pirates adventure golf experience

Primary 7 pupils had a fantastic day at Pirates Adventure Golf on Thursday 24 June 2021. Children played a round before stopping off at the Cloud Nine outdoor tent in Newtownards for lunch on their way back to school. We'd quite a few 'Hole in 1s' at the golf - we're not sure whether that proves we're good at golf or good at being crazy! Most importantly, the children had a fantastic time. Thank you to the PTFA whose continued support meant that this visit was subsidised.

primary 7 tennis experience- wed 16 june 2021

Primary 7 children attended Cloughey Tennis Courts for a tennis experience with local coaches today. The children had earned a break from the classroom and had an 'ace' time practising their tennis skills.

conductors and insulators

As part of our Victorian Topic work, children in P6 and P7 have been reading about the inventor of the light bulb, Thomas Edison. Today we created circuits and tested a range of material to discover if they were good conductors or insulators. The children made predictions, tested and then recorded the results of this investigation.

outdoor learning- measure!

Primary 6 & 7 pupils spent some time at Cloughey Beach this morning completing a number of mathematics activities designed to use and apply both data handling and measurement skills. Children undertook running and standing jumps and were seeing how far they could throw a ball. Data now collected, the children will be working out the 'range' of their efforts and calculating the 'mean average' for the class. A very enjoyable lesson indeed!

healthy me (menssana project)

Children in Primary 5 - Primary 7 have been taking part in Action Mental Health's 'Healthy Me' training.  'Healthy Me' promotes mental health and social and emotional well-being in children; the programme has a strong focus on prevention and self help by:
  • Improving social and emotional well-being through use of coping skills and managing feelings
  • Encouraging help-seeking behaviour
  • Promoting the equality of mental health with physical health
  • Encouraging multi-agency working in relation to support of children with mental health needs
  • Supporting transition from primary to secondary school
We are very grateful to Leah (Action Mental Health) for facilitating this programme for us.
